Videoconferencing: How to forge new business relationships? Guest Isabelle Simon CEO of Cercle de Lorraine

The Cercle de Lorraine was founded in Brussels in 1998 by businessman Stéphan Jourdain, and aims to bring together leading figures from Belgium's industrial and financial world, both French- and Dutch-speaking1. The institution has recently opened up to the international community, to act as a relay for Belgium's image in the EU and the world.

The Cercle de Lorraine aims to be an exceptional, elitist place, reserved for the most representative personalities in the business world, political and economic representatives, diplomatic personnel and a number of professionals. All members have been approved by a ballot committee.

After having had its headquarters at Château Fond'Roy (former property of President Mobutu) on Avenue du Prince d'Orange in Uccle, the Cercle moved to the Hôtel de Mérode on Place Poelaert.

Cercle de Lorraine had given itself a new governance in October 2016, with an enlarged General Meeting and a new Board of Directors.

In April 2016, the Cercle de Lorraine presented its new strategic plan to the press and its members, designed to establish it more than ever as the benchmark Cercle for businessmen and women in Brussels. The Cercle intends to develop its role as a place for exchanges and meetings, and to open up even more to Dutch speakers, women business leaders and executives, young entrepreneurs and the international community present in Brussels (Chambers of Commerce, European Commission, NATO, embassies, etc.). To put this strategy on a solid footing, the Cercle consolidated its financial position2 by appealing to its creditor partners. They agreed to new financial terms in line with its resources.

Dirk Gyselinck3 , a member of the Belfius Management Board, has been appointed Chairman of the Board. He will be supported in this role by a Vice-Chairman, Charles-Albert Peers de Nieuwburgh, CEO of Alcogroup, and Managing Director Godefroid de Woelmont.

To complete this new dynamic, the Cercle de Lorraine is launching the "Club33"4 , a sponsorship club of 33 top companies in line with the Cercle's positioning and philosophy. Their aim? To support the Cercle financially and strategically with a privileged partner status.

On May 11, 2020, the press reported that Cercle de Lorraine was up for sale due to financial difficulties.

In August 2020, the press reported that the Cercle de Lorraine would disappear and be replaced by a new concept being developed by its new owners.5
